Message from the TUC re Durham Miners’ Gala:
Unison Northern Region have kindly agreed to coordinate the field stewards for the Durham Miners’ Gala which takes place on Saturday 8th July 2017. To that end it would be greatly appreciated if your union could identify volunteers to assist with the stewarding. We are asking that stewards commit to a morning, midday or afternoon slot.
The main role of the stewards will be to ensure that the various evacuation points are kept clear at all times. No prior experience of stewarding is necessary as relevant information will be provided and volunteers will be invited to attend a stewards briefing.
Due to the increasing demands being placed on the DMA a minimum of 40 stewards are required and the earlier we can identify stewards the better. It would therefore be appreciated if you could give this matter some priority in raising this request through your networks.
Without the support of unions and volunteers the Gala could not take place.
