Branch activity in our region included:
Cumbria University
Branch to focus on increasing membership amongst those on hourly paid and/or short term contracts as these are areas underrepresented in our membership. To do this, the branch will be asking relevant staff to take part in a survey with regards their experience of working at UoC and using this as a vehicle to build the membership.
Durham University
Meeting for Queens Campus members and non-members on Friday 25th November with a recruitment stall.
Gateshead College
Coffee and cake with meet the branch recruitment sessions to be held on a regular basis.
Lakes College West Cumbria
Informal drop-in for “tea, cake and the craque” on Wednesday 23rd November lunchtime. Members are encouraged to bring a non-member with them
Middlesbrough College
‘Tell us what matters’ campaign stall and staff room visits on Wednesday 23rd November
Newcastle College
The branch will be hosting two tea and cake events from 3.30 – 5.00 open to all staff; members are expected to bring a +1. Tuesday 22nd November in Riverside Dene our School of Education and 23rd November in Lifestyle building School of Construction, Leisure and Sport.
New College Durham
UCU stall in college on Thursday 24th November to combine Recruitment week with Anti- casualisation. The branch are also planning to go round to all of the workrooms at college that week with recruitment literature.
Newcastle University
Post-grad meeting on Thursday, Event in Med School on Wednesday. Other events planned.
Northumbria University
Recruitment stalls running ‘Tell us what matters’ campaign. The branch now have their own campaign kit. Stalls on all three of our campuses, to take place each lunchtime during recruitment week. Everybody who gets a new member to join will receive a goodie bag (tote bag containing various free gifts including those above), as will the new member. We’ll also be providing free muffins to anybody who passes by.
