Sunderland University has announced a cross-institutional review in a bid to save £8 million

Staff have been told the review will focus on how the institution organises its admin and professional/technical support and it is anticipated there will be around 130 job losses.


These are likely to be across senior management, professional and technical support and administrative functions. All staff in both Sunderland and London (and not identified as “academic”) will be included in the review.


The university is holding briefing sessions for all staff and has said it is committed to working with trade unions to explore all possible alternatives to compulsory redundancies.


The university needs to save around £8m in financial year 2016/17 and expects this to be made up of £3m non-staff and £5m in staff savings/efficiences.
